Shortly before noon today BDB time we began experiencing intermittent issues with our web service. Zwip reported the problem to me almost immediately and several steps were taken to resolve the issue. A major complicating factor was my state of holiday inebriation. As I sobered up and was able to focus on the problem it became clear that the web service had serious issues and it was scaled up which had the desired effect of doing a full rebuild of the infrastructure. Everything is fine now and as a bonus, the site is VERY fast. I'm supposed to be on holiday right now but early in the new year, I'll make some changes to give us a little more robustness moving forward.
